PDO threads are composed of the substance used in absorbable surgical suture. After they are placed by needle either into or deep to a wrinkle or line, they stimulate the body’s immune system which tries to absorb them. This brings in collagen, thereby producing a filling and firming effect on the skin, within 30 days, and lasting 9-12 months.
There are smooth and coiled slender threads that are effective for the lines and wrinkles, and there are heavier barbed threads that are effective for lifting sagging skin. These are used most often on the cheeks, jowls and neck. They attract a lot of collagen, and produce a lifting effect that lasts 18-24 months.
The procedure is fairly quick, and the effects are more predictable than fillers because the threads do not lump up or migrate like filler can sometimes do.
